Upper Midwest Islet Club Conference - April 30 to May 2, 2008 with logo

The Upper Midwest Islet Club (UMIC) will hold its first annual meeting at the Student Life Center on the Vanderbilt University campus from Wednesday, April 30th to Friday, May 2nd. We will be updating this site with more information on the agenda of scientific sessions, and social activities.

About the Conference

The goal is to foster greater communication between pancreatic beta cell biology investigators within the region. The meeting will be composed of both senior and junior investigators, with a decided focus towards students, postdocs and newly independent investigators serving as speakers. There will be a plenary talk on Wednesday evening by an established islet investigator in memory of Dr. Paul Lacy - The Lacy Medal Lecture.

The presentations will communicate the latest in cutting-edge pancreatic islet beta-cell research in relevance to both type-1 and -2 diabetes. The hope of the organizing committee is that the participation of the roughly 125 investigators will result in greater collaboration among individuals and their supporting groups. Towards this end, funds have been raised to provide travel grants to the UMIC meeting for presenting young investigators postdoctoral fellows and students. Both speaker and poster presentations will be selected for support from the abstracts received by the February 1, 2008 deadline.
